How fast should thyroid medication work?
I have recently had my thyroid medication upped. She said I could tell a difference in 6 weeks. I believe its a whole lot sooner. Any opinions on this?

about 3-4 weeks.
It varies person to person, but it seems it took about month for me to adjust to mine, I just changed it again actually and will have to keep you up to date on that. Take care
It takes about 4-6 weeks for you to get the full benefit from a change in thyroid medication, but you could start feeling some difference faster than that.
Sounds like you are on a T4 medication aka Synthroid, Levoxyl, levothyroxine, etc. T4 is a storage hormone. And yes, it can take up to 6 weeks for the T4 to fully build in your body and for you to feel the effects of the conversion of T4 to T3. Because it’s T3 that is the active hormone, not T4.
But, you should know that T4 meds are becoming less popular with thyroid patients, even if doctors are still blindly prescribing them. They either do practically nothing, or an incomplete job. And with the latter, nearly everyone is left with lingering hypo symptoms while on a T4 med. Why? Because the body is not meant to live on a storage hormone alone. Here’s a webpage explaining why: http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/t4-only-meds-dont-work
And here’s what has quicker results and works far better: http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/natural-thyroid-101 That will tell you about desiccated thyroid, aka Armour, Naturethroid, which gives you exactly what your own thyroid would be giving you: T4, T3, T2, T1 and calcitonin. Patients report repeatedly that they feel much better on desiccated thyroid.
In fact, the above pages come from a patient-to-patient website called Stop the Thyroid Madness. It’s compiled by thyroid patient activist Janie Bowthorpe, and represents far better thyroid treatment as experienced by patients around the world.
Here’s a page that summarized it all: http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/things-we-have-learned
There is also a book by the same name that I strongly recommend. Has even more detail and is easier to refer to .
