Seriously ill and in hospital in a critical condition… What do you do?

In your experience, or if you are a psychologist, what factors contribute to a high likelihood of someone experiencing a mental illness?

And what factors will mitigate this?

Thanks.

My boyfriend and I live in Florida, where we got to school, but we are both from up North (NY and NJ). We try to come home once to twice a year to see our friends and family. But in making this trip (so far we’ve driven every time but we’ve decided from now on, we need to fly), we’ve noticed that he gets severe travel anxiety. He will be feeling perfectly fine until the morning we are supposed to leave and gets very stressed out, sick to his stomach, and all he wants to do is sleep. Is there any over the counter medication. Or even suggestions of perscriptions that we can bring up to his doctor so that we can at least get him back to Florida before classes start on Thursday? Thank you!

My brother is an alcoholic and needs help badly. There is no money for rehab programs. There is A.A and together with medication maybe he could get some help.

Suppose a person has been using a given pharmaceutical for some condition, at a given dose. Now suppose that for whatever reason – for instance, that the medication has undesirable side effects or a new, better medication becomes available, the person and / or his or her doctor decides to switch to a different drug for the same condition.

The question is: given the dose at which the patient was using the first drug, how does the doctor determine the dose of the new drug with which the patient should continue treatment? Are there general guidelines the doctor uses to make this decision, or is it specific to the type of drugs involved?

Every time my husband eats or drinks anything, he gets sick to his stomach and very nauseated. Does not matter what it is that he eats or drinks he gets so sick that he goes back to bed. He is a disabled Veteran, they have given him meds for nausea that does not help.

Is a drug addiction a sickness or stupidity? If you were very close to someone that wanted so bad to get off drugs but couldn’t, Will you be wrong and stupid for being there for them regardless?

An old friend is coming to live with me who does NOT have health insurance so I will have to get him some and he has diabetes so he’s kind of screwed getting it for himself lol. What is the best way to go about doing this and the most affordable?

And could I combine his health insurance with mine or are there jobs out there that he can get that will PAY for his health insurance?

If I was going to describe a sick person, what would I write? It doesn’t matter what illness they have, I just want to know how you would describe them. Tired? Bags under their eyes, pale skin etc. Could anyone give me any tips?

When a person has NOT been declared incompetent by a court, but they are mentally ill, can they make a contract? If they do, what type of contract will it be, void or voidable?

There is a boy at my school who is mentally ill. He twitches and shakes and tells me he does that from his headaches. He said his head hurts when he stares at this girl? People make fun of him and he doesn’t have any friends. I try to be nice to him but he seems to be following me…he hugs me and touches my hair and it’s starting to freak me out…some advice?

My mom and dad said they feel sick and that it’s probably strong allergies or a cold. My little sister just threw up. I have a strong phobia if getting ‘sick’, and I’m literally crying. How do I prevent sickness from her if she’s going to be touching remotes, doorknobs, soap dispensers, shower loofas…I’m really scared! How do I prevent being sick, especially when a sick person is in my house?

My mother in law is in hospice care, but she is still up and about, not totally bed ridden, mind is still keen. How come her doctor put her under this care if she has no cancer or terminally ill disease. All she has is stage 4 copd. That’s it.

If a person that is completely normal that does not have schizophrenia takes medication that is only intended for schizophrenic patients, what could happen to the normal person? What would happen to their brain? What are some side effects?

I am having a tooth implant. My insurance co. won’t pay a nickel for it. They say it is not a necessary procedure since there are alternatives even though I had to sign a statement with my dentist that included the clause ‘I understand this is a necessary procedure in my case because alternatives could jeopardize the health of my entire tooth structure.’ Then I noticed my dental insurance pays for preventative oral cancer screening. I asked their rep whether that was a necessary procedure since obviously it’s not, since it’s preventative. The rep gave me some b.s. answer. Then I said, “why don’t you just admit you won’t pay for the implant because it’s expensive?” The rep said, we don’t pay for dental implants because they are not covered in our policy.” Duh. That’s Illogic 101. Do insurance companies really think we are that stupid?

I ate about 20 a year ago and got sick. (I really love raw oysters, won’t eat them cooked)I want to eat oysters again but don’t know how many I should eat without getting sick.

Hi, I’m pretty sure I want to become a doctor, but am having trouble deciding which field to enter. Is there field of medicine that would be fitting for a person with a mathematical oriented brain? Any and all answers would be appreciated. Thank you.

Can a smart person be mentally ill and abnormal?
I mean my friend told me the other day that another friend is sick and is not like us. Should we break up with that friend?
